The workshop will first introduce the delegates various causes in an investigation\, initial actions to be taken in an investigation\, ways to manage witnesses when an incident or accident takes place. \nDelegates will also learn more about physical evidence collection and how human factors play a role in an incident and accident. \nThis workshop will introduce delegates to several interview techniques and show them how cognitive interview can help to elicit information during interviews. \nWhat you will learn from this workshop: \n\nUnderstand the International Structure underlying Accident and Incident Investigation.\nDescribe how a casualty is defined.\nIdentify what defines the scope of a casualty investigation.\nDifferentiate the different aspects of human factors that are considered during an investigation.\nDetermine the initial actions to be taken for an investigation.\nMaster how to collect and preserve witness evidence and physical evidence.\nIdentify different analysis techniques available and the advantages and disadvantages of each one.\nLearn how to prepare the report and the importance of neutrality.\n\nWho will attend \nThis workshop is suitable for: \n\nHead of marine operation\nMarine officer\nMarine pilot\nMarine supervisor\nMaritime legal advisor\nSafety officer\nShip manager\nShip owners\nSuperintendent\n\n  \nTrainer \nAt the age of 12\, Course Trainer started sailing with his father in Coypu dinghies and progressed to Mirror\, Enterprise\, Wayfarer and 420’s. He sailed worldwide for 23 years (1975 to 1988) on a range of commercial ships and spent his leave sailing around the UK and in the Mediterranean. Throughout this time Ian studied for his commercial and yachting qualifications and he passed his Ocean Yachtmasters in 1982 followed by his Class 1 (Unlimited) Masters Certificate in 1984. \nIn 1988\, Course Trainer was recruited by Shell International Marine who sponsored him to return to the University of Southampton on an Honours degree course in Naval Architecture (Ship Science). Following this he went on to take a Master’s Degree in Business Management. \nIn 1992\, Course Trainer started his marine surveying and consultancy business whereby they offer technical consultancy and services to owners\, operators\, managers\, bank and insurance companies in both leisure and commercial marine sectors. \nIn 1995\, he worked with a London based Underwriter and developed Risk Management Programme specifically for large yachts. The programme has carried out risk management review of over 300 with Course Trainer personally carried out over 100 of these. \nCourse Trainer has been closely involved with the International Institute of Marine Surveyors. He was elected as the President in 1999. Since then\, he has been heavily involved with all of the Institute’s education and training activities up until 2008 where he was the Institutes Education and Training Director. He was also the Course Director for the Diploma in Yacht and Small Craft Surveying. \nIn 2005\, Course Trainer developed the Diploma Course in Superyacht Operations in association with the Professional Yachtsman’s Association and went on to develop a range of other training and distance learning courses with the Maritime Training Academy. \nCourse Trainer has been involved with numerous accident and incident investigations including grounding damage\, fire damage\, collision damage (ships and fixed and floating objects)\, personal accident and injury\, professional negligence and gross negligence manslaughter.
